“Saab has tried to breathe new life into its flagship range which was introduced in 1997, and it's the most dramatic change since the car was first launched. Bodywork forward of the A-pillar is new, as well as a new rear, revised chassis settings and a new-look dashboard. Both previous diesel engines (a 120bhp 2.2-litre and a 176bhp 3.0 V6) have been dropped in favour of a new more competitive 150bhp 1.9 TiD. Saab doesn't try to hide the fact that the 9-5 isn't as modern as many of its premium rivals, but it's priced to undercut them by several thousand pounds.”
